Which level applies to my work

Three questions. You get the authorisation level that applies, what it permits, what it rules out, and whether an AI use statement is mandatory.

Where the level is written

On the assessment brief: syllabus, question paper, Moodle or LearnWorlds instructions. If it is not there, this tool gives you the default level and drafts the message to have it confirmed.

The five levels

The scale applies to every academic assessment, on every campus. The level appears on each brief.

Three recurring situations

They cover almost every question students put to the AI Transformation Office.

The brief says nothing

This is the most frequent case, and the only one where you have something to do before you even start. The default level applies, but it is the written confirmation that protects you.

Still unsure? Ask before you start, never after. A question asked always beats a breach found.

The teacher said it out loud

The teacher’s instruction prevails. Ask for written confirmation, keep it, and apply what was announced.

Group work

The level applies to every member, without exception. The statement is collective and broken down by contribution. Each member must be able to account for their own.

Internship, apprenticeship, junior enterprise

The more restrictive policy applies, the company’s or the school’s. Where the company has no written rule, you ask your supervisor before using AI.

Whatever the level

A level opens a use, it erases none of the common rules. These seven lines never move, from N0 to N4.

What no level allows

  • Having your work done for you: fully delegating an assignment, a dissertation, an essay.
  • Hiding your use: omitting the statement, misrepresenting the assisted share.
  • Using AI in an assessment where it is not authorised.
  • Sending sensitive data to an unapproved AI tool.
  • Copying and pasting without checking: AI invents references, figures and quotations.
  • Sharing your access: your AI credentials are strictly personal.
  • Falsifying the AI use statement: lying makes the situation worse, it does not solve it.

The charter creates no autonomous disciplinary regime. For students, any measure follows from the ISC Paris academic regulations and the adversarial procedure they set out. Source: common core V3, Legal articulation.
